Coimbatore: With the aim to train students and youth in various technical skills, a new training centre was recently opened in the textile city. By 2020 the newly established centre targets to train 55,000 underprivileged youth.
The center of excellence is the 22nd in the country and is established in partnership between Godrej Appliances and Rathinam College of Engineering. A source shared with DC that the corporate house, under the vocational training programme of the group’s ‘Godrej Disha’ initiative, intends to give a new direction to the lives of India’s underprivileged youth by training them in skilled employment in line with the Government’s National Skill Development Mission.
The centre located in the campus of the city-based educational institution, will conduct training programmes for students of the college, underprivileged youth in Coimbatore, besides training ASP technicians from Godrej Appliances’.
Duration of the training programmes offered ranges from 15-days to three-months and candidates will be trained on how to repair most commonly used electronic appliances like refrigerator, washing machine, microwave oven and air conditioner. Content, curriculum, support, products, tools, equipment and spare parts will be provided by the corporate house, sources said.
