Programme Structure

BSc Microbiology course involves the study of the biology of bacteria, viruses, protozoa and fungi. Microbiologists are needed to do the research required for the future battle against diseases worldwide and to exploit microbes in the production of food.

The main focus of this course is the pathogenic potential of the organisms that cause disease in man. It also covers aspects of the biochemistry, physiology and genetics of microorganisms.

Students will spend their first year learning fundamental concepts before specializing in microbiology topics in their second and final year.
